Feeding Friends
An outreach ministry that serves the needy in our area
Thank you so much to all of you who helped
out this month. We served 94 lunches to a very appreciative crowd! This month we served pepperoni
and cheese pizza, green salad, fresh fruit, drinks, and some delicious handmade and decorated cookies. Throughout the month,
we also distributed groceries, clothing, furniture, household items, and hygiene products.
Special thanks to all of you generous folks
who donated groceries, furniture and household items. The shelter continues to call us when they place
people in apartments. These people often move in with nothing but the clothes on their backs, so they are
grateful for anything we can provide.
The next time our group will meet is Saturday, December 19, 2009. We won’t be preparing
lunches at the Loaves & Fishes kitchen this month. Instead, we’ll serve Little Caesar’s
pizza with all the trimmings! We’d still love help sorting clothing and packing food-to-go and hygiene
bags. If you’d like to join us, please meet in the Good Shepherd kitchen at 9:30 a.m.
Invite a friend to share a very rewarding experience!
If you can help with groceries, this month we need: Contributions toward the cost of pizza, Salad greens & dressing, fresh fruit, Sodas
& bottled water, Cookies and/or dessert bars
There’s an on-going need for: Shorts & shirts, laundry soap, sleeping bags and tarps,
can openers, towels & washcloths of any size or color, both used or new, and hygiene items.
For the “Food for Later” bags: Shelf-stable meals (ravioli, hearty soups, stews, chili, spam,
tuna kits, etc.). Fruit cups/fruit snacks, packaged bars, snacks and desserts.
If you
have questions or need additional information, please call Dana Deniston 768-9087 or Linda Rodemsky
864-9266. Or, email us at freindsfeedingfriends@yahoo.com
Thank you once more to all
our faithful supporters whose contributions help make this outreach ministry possible!

The
Diablo Valley Literacy Council The Diablo Valley Literacy Council was started in 1978 by a group of women from Good Shepherd Lutheran
Church, along with several women from other churches, who had been active in literacy. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church sponsors
us by providing free space for our tutor training classes, for various meetings and for our library materials. Our Board reflects
our ecumenical diversity -- Roman Catholic, Jewish and other Protestants serve on it. Who We Are:The Diablo Valley Literacy Council is an organization made up of trained volunteers who are dedicated
to teaching adult speakers of other languages to speak, read and write English well enough to function in our society. What
We Do: The Diablo Valley Literacy Council trains and supports English language tutors. Tutors meet with students
individually or in small groups to instruct them in the English language using a method developed by Dr. Frank Laubach. Tutors
use pictures, stories and conversations to teach the consonants, long and short vowel sounds of the English language, and
vocabulary and sentence structure.
