John was born in Sterling Illinois, the second of Robert and Anna Mae Ridenour’s four children. He graduated from Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, CA, and earned his degree in Mathematics with a minor
in Psychology from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, CA.
After earning his teaching credential, John taught high school in a suburb of Melbourne, Australia for
a few years. The highlight of his time in Australia was meeting and marrying Marjorie, who is a mathematics educator. Heeding his personal call from God, he returned to California and attended Pacific
Lutheran Theological Seminary, in Berkeley. In 1986, following graduation and ordination, he served as Pastor of Lutheran
Community Church. From 1993 to 2002, John served as Associate Pastor at Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church in Novato, CA. While there, he earned an Executive MBA
from St. Mary’s, Moraga. Upon completion of that call, he began a period
of Interim Ministry, serving five congregations: Grace - Ukiah; Hope - El Sobrante,
Davis Lutheran - Davis, Lutheran Church of the Resurrection - Granite Bay, CA, and St. Stephen’s - El Dorado Hills.

John and Marjorie have been blessed with two daughters, Jessica and
Katie. John interests include playing softball, golf (he serves on the Board of Directors of the Northern California
Left-Handed Golf Association) and music.
